Cartier: 1900 - 1939 by Judy Rudoe
Cartier jewelry was the inspiration for many a piece of costume jewelry, especially the wonderful Trifari "fruit salad" pieces. Take a look at the precious gems that inspired faux fantasies. This is the book that accompanies the Cartier exhibit, currently at Chicago's Field Museum of Natural History through January 16, 2000.

Warman's Jewelry (Second Edition) by Christie Romero
The NEW definitive guide to jewelry, by Jewelcollect member Christie Romero! Bigger and better than ever, is my understanding.

Amazing Gems : An Illustrated Guide to the World's Most Dazzling Costume Jewelry by Deanna Farneti Cera, Jean Appleton (Introduction)
Beautifully done volume of sparkling costume jewels from Edwardian to the 1960s. Fabulous pictures! Both American and European pieces are featured. This is by far one of my favorite "picture books."

Costume Jewelry Identification and Price Guide (Confident Collector) by Harrice Simons Miller
Written by well-known New York costume jewelry dealer (and member of Jewelcollect!) Harrice Simmons Miller. A good guide for the beginning collector, as well as the advanced "jool junkie." Even though most pictures are black-and-white, the pieces represented are top-notch. When in New York City, be sure to visit Harrice's small shop in the Antiques Showplace, 40 W. 25th St.

Collectible Costume Jewelry: Identification & Values by Cherri Simonds
Nicely-done book by another Jewelcollect member, Cherri Simonds. This volume chronicles a mid-range of more affordable costume jewelry pieces, which are, IMHO, very nice!

Costume Jewelry : A Practical Handbook & Value Guide by Fred Razazadeh
This book chronicles a good number of well-known costume jewelry manufacturers, as well as some that are not as well-known. As with Cherri's book, a lot of the pieces represented are not top-of-the-line, but are very nice in their own right.

Collecting Costume Jewelry by Harrice Simons Miller
Harrice's new book hopefully will be out shortly; according to amazon.com, publication was slated for June, 1998. Publication has been delayed at least once. It appears you can order this book; not sure of its status. I've ordered it; hope I get some word soon!

The Jewels of Miriam Haskell by Deanna Farneti Cera
A fabulous book for Miriam Haskell collectors; contains photos of truly beautiful Haskell creations, especially the pastel pieces, which I have always had trouble finding. Loads of background info, as well.

Fabulous Costume Jewelry : History of Fantasy and Fashion in Jewels by Vivienne Becker
Wonderful book which provides the reader with a good grounding in the history of costume jewelry, from Georgian splendor to the 1960s and beyond. Numerous ads and other supplemental information help the reader "place" costume jewelry pieces within their own era.

A Collector's Guide to Costume Jewelry : Key Styles and How to Recognize Them by Tracy Tolkien, Henrietta Wilkinson
Another book with fabulous photographs of pieces I'd like to have; good narrative, as well.

The Best of Costume Jewelry (a Schiffer Book for Collectors) by Nancy Schiffer, Tim Scott
You may or may not agree as to whether this book features "the best" in costume jewelry . . . but the pieces featured sure are nice!

Collectible Costume Jewelry: ID and Value Guide by S. Sylvia Henzel
A decent guide for older jewelry, especially bead necklaces, etc. Does not feature the really fabulous "high-end" type pieces. Very little narrative.

20th Century Costume Jewelry by Angie Gordon
This book is out of print, but amazon.com may be able to obtain one for you . . . or you may be able to find it elsewhere. If you can, buy it! This book has some of the most fabulous jools I've ever seen . . . and I want them all!

Costume Jewelry : The Great Pretenders (a Schiffer Book for Collectors) by Lyngerda Kelley, Nancy Schiffer
Not a lot of narrative in this volume, but lots of great high-end jewelry!

Popular Jewelry of the 60s, 70s, & 80s (a Schiffer Book for Collectors) by Roseann Ettinger
Chronicles the styles of three decades' worth of jewelry.

Popular Jewelry : 1840-1940 by Roseann Ettinger
This book offers a pictorial look of a century of jewelry; photographs and advertisement reproductions provide a comprehensive view of the costume jewelry of each era.

Fun Jewelry by Nancy N. Schiffer
Chock full of all sorts of figural items: birds, bugs, flowers, people, anything you can imagine! One of my favorite volumes, just because I love figurals.

Collecting Rhinestone & Colored Stone Jewelry : An Identification & Value Guide by Maryanne Dolan

The Jewels of Lalique by Rene Lalique, Yvonne Brunhammer (Editor), Sigrid Barten, Cooper-hewitt, Marie-Odile Briot, Evelyne Posseme
Rene Lalique was a jewelry designer early in his career, and you might say he defined the art of making jewelry from nonprecious materials. This is the companion volume to the Lalique exhibit, currently at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. This jewelry is to die for!
